Shanna asked:

All right, im getting all my stuff ready to decorate for Christmas and all of my stocking are different from each other. I thought it would be fun to make my own stockings this year so we all have matching ones. So, I need to make one for me, my husband, our son and daughter (son is 4 daughter is 2) our 2 dogs and our 2 cats. I know im probably weird to hang stockings for the pets but I am! lol Anyway, I want something different. Im not great at sewing but I can do a little bit. I was thinking along the lines of buying plain stockings at the dollar store then doing something to make them personalized. I tried googling it but I cant find anything I care for, not to mention hardly any pictures. So, any help would be very appreciated, thanks!!!

(any other christmas craft ideas would be great as well, something that my kids and I can do together – but mainly im looking for stocking ideas)

Micheal’s or hobby lobby is the place to go. You can get little pins, iron on’s, etc. Once you start looking through the aisles you will start getting ideas- bring your kids and let them pick what they want to put on it, they’ll think that’s fun.

By the way, i’m doing the same thing this year:)

    okay well heres an idea..
you could always get a few things your children like and put them on the stockings along with a picture of them
    idk but yeah..

and a christmas craft idea is..
    you can get:
    paint..
    little googly eyes…
    ribbon…
    and pipe cleaners…
    and pop sicle sticks…

and you paint then and make them look like snowmen

We bought cheap red stockings from the dollar store and bought a variety of Christmas colored sparkly paint and we each decorated our own. This may not work for the animals but you could improvise and draw like a bone on the dogs, etc… Now, every year when we take them out we talk about the day we made – GREAT MEMORIES!

    Happy Holidays!

For the pets, shop for some paw print material and make them out of that.
For your children, find material that is geared for their age and interest.
For you and hubby, if you had an old quilt, you could cut it up and stitch into stockings. And if you really want them all matching, make them all the same.

I wouldn’t get cheap stockings at the dollar store. You are putting time and money into decorating them, why start off with a cheap product. And don’t you want them to last for years? I would go to Hobby Lobby and get some nice stockings for your family, maybe cheaper ones for the pets. Find some nice letters and glue on every ones names. Check in the scrapbooking/sewing/christmas section for embellishments

If you use felt, you can just use a good glue. For the pets, how about Paw print stockings?

For the humans, do a snowman family. Get creative with the hats and scarves. Or a family of gingerbread. Just look for coloring pictures online or in books for patterns.

Here’s a link to many other projects including stockings:
